It seems every year, Malibu gets a few more upscale stores and dining experiences.  This summer is no exception.  I was a Malibu resident during my time at Pepperdine and on and off after graduation.  This little oasis by the ocean was home to me for years and years.  I don't think I ever took the breathtaking sunsets and ocean views for granted, but it was a regular part of my day. Back then, Malibu was still a hippie-ish beach town with very local mom and pop restaurants and boutiques.

Today, it's all very different. The shopping experience still includes locally owned boutiques, but corporate giants like JCrew and Urban Outfitters have moved in, offering items exclusively tailored for the Malibu clientele. Alice & Olivia, Maxfield, Wildfox and Ralph Lauren have similar concepts for their store, pieces harder (if impossible) to find anywhere else.

Park your car once and have a fun filled day.... beach, food, drinks, and shopping.

And the downtown restaurants are for those who want to see and be seen.

After all the cardio from shopping, you'll need a break. Maybe a Mojito? Go put your name on the list early, there's usually a wait! If you're not in the mood to sit down at a restaurant, try Malibu Kitchen, Malibu Mutt or Johnny's.  Otherwise, one of my other all-time favorites is pictured below, Taverna Tony's.  Or make my mom happy and go to her much-loved Coogies.  And if you're into celebrity sitings, keep your eyes peeled at any of these spots. My parents enjoy walking around this area for many reasons.  A fun reason is the story to take back home: who you 'famously' bumped into! We've collected stories of Pierce Brosnon, Adam Sandler, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber (owners of Cafe Habana), to name just a few.

Don't forget to take a walk on the beach while you're out on the Pacific. Nothing is quite like feeling sand on your feet and sun on your shoulders! And finally, send me your stories via social media or leave a comment below! #share
