Happy Place: bedroom makeover

One of my mental happy places is creating little spaces around the house. It takes me too long to make decisions (STILL not done with the bedroom), but I’m gonna celebrate the wins so far! I got some specific questions when I posted this photo recently; thought I’d just answer them here on the blog;) Several of you asked if I put wallpaper up on all the walls, or just did an accent? Well, scroll down!

You may remember me showing you all options from Wallpaper Direct on instastories. I’m showing some of the choices in the photo to the right (or above if on iPad/mobile). I’ll be honest, the poll was torn… not everyone loved this purple I picked. But, my mom guided me. And she was right! I highly recommend asking for samples and living with them taped to the wall for a few days. Pro tip I learned: if you can get two samples of your favorites (even more!)- that’s better. You can actually get a real idea of what it would look like in your space.

My mom also convinced me to only do one wall. No need to spend the money and labor on the whole room. It feels bigger with one accent wall and adds the interest and pop of color I was seeking. You get a pretty big bang for your buck. Now, I’m looking at other rooms in the house to make an impact.

I still need lamps (ordering those now) and a bench at the end and we are adding a door to the (4th) wall you can’t see here. Until then, you’re questions:

HEADBOARD. Yes, I would rather have a whole, huge wooden bed, but we have an adjustable frame. I didn’t want to spend the money on a custom build for now, so we went with this awesome, linen fabric headboard. WorldMarket often has 40% off furniture sales so keep your eyes peeled if you’re interested. We’ve had this bed/headboard for a good amount of time. I never had it treated and must say, it’s held up VERY well with kids climbing around, etc.

BEDSKIRT. I had trouble finding one that worked for us. But LandsEnd had some great ones. This is the white one that we chose.

PILLOWS. I found on Wayfair. And here’s a trick I learned from Restoration Hardware. I use two down comforters to keep the bed looking fluffy. One thinner one with a white duvet (just an inexpensive one from amazon) that goes under the fuller one with the nicer duvet (from Potterybarn- who is currently having a 25% off bedding sale!).

CHANDELIER. I do love this one pictured above in our bedroom. It’s timeless and lovely at night dimmed- a romantic glow.

SIDE TABLES. These are hand-me ups from my girlfriend Kaley. Not a bad idea to find pieces at estate sales or markets to repurpose, repaint, etc. These came black and I might paint them white, but for the time being, we are enjoying them.

The two photos below are before and directly after wallpaper. Are any of you thinking of making over some rooms? Show me! Tell me! You’ll be happy - it’s rewarding to have a clean, fresh area!!

PS- while you’re here, any great book recommendations for my side table?
