MOMMY and ME #QUARANTINE

HI GUYS… this will be fast and furious. I’ll try to make it prettier later… for now, here is a list that I’m going to add to all the time. But, I need your help. Add your ideas in comments (if you’re having trouble commenting, just leave a message as a “guest” and add your name or give credit in the message). No one I’d rather be stuck in one place with that this guy, but activities make it more fun.

HOMESCHOOLING TOOLS

Looking for workbooks for K-2nd grade? Not thing beats TinkerActive’s series of books. I’ve been a fan for over a year now! They are generously offering free downloads to print!

ADD A LITTLE CULTURE TO YOUR DAY:

I’m loving the updated posts from the likes of Mental Floss showcasing top museums around the world offering virtual tours. For older kids, this is awesome to sit down and do with them them. Hayden loves it in shorter spurts. These were our favorites so far:

SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

BRITISH MUSEUM

LOUVRE

VIST THE ANIMALS

BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE DALLAS ZOO! ON INSTAGRAM.

KIDS YOGA

Amazon Prime has some great options, we like COSMIC KIDS’ ADVENTURES

CELEBRITY BOOK READING

(OLAF FROM FROZEN’S JOSH GAD)

@JOSHGAD on twitter reads books to kids. (Voice of Olaf) I believe he is pledging to do it everyday. (thx, Josh!)

check @savewithstories to see some of your favorite celebrities reading children’s books (working with No Kid Hungry during this time to feed children).

HONORABLE ACTIVITY OF THE DAY

NOTE FROM A FRIEND A FUN IDEA TO START TODAY:

For St. Patrick’s Day, we put shamrocks in our windows and went on a walk through neighborhood to spot them all. There were so many shamrocks in our neighborhood that it made for a fun hunt yesterday. NBC came to film it.

Now we are putting up hearts. In a similar effort of tying yellow ribbons to trees to support our troops, now we will display hearts for all of the healthcare professionals helping us on today’s frontlines. Great for your community too!  Here is the original note:

My husband is an ER physician and on the front lines of this pandemic with tons of nurses and healthcare workers that are required to go to work. They have taken oaths to help others in times like these. They are stressed, and many scared, yet coming home with brave faces for their families. We are constantly washing and cleaning everything in order to keep this virus at bay from our own families. I know this isn’t much and there’s not a lot we can really do being quarantined, but I’m asking for everyone that’s able to prominently display a big red or pink heart on your front door or mailbox so that when these healthcare workers are on their way to work to care for people like us, they see that people like us care about them! A little encouragement can go a long way. This is a great project for the little ones! Let’s cover our doors with hearts! Please join me in my project “Hearts for Healthcare Workers” Share the love for these selfless heroes! Brighten their day! Share photos of your front doors and mailbox on our page! Let’s spread our appreciation instead of this virus. ❤️💖❤️💖❤️💖❤️ #HeartsForHealthcareWorkers

SCIENCE EXPERIMENT TODAY: WASH HANDS

A very easy way to teach children the importance of washing hands.

For our project, I planned to teach the children about the importance of washing hands. We will need 3 slices of bread (one slice can be cut into three parts). Please take a fresh slice of bread and let your child touch it with unwashed hands. Leave one slice untouched. And let them touch another after they wash their hands with warm water and soap. Place all 3 slices in Ziplock bags and label them. Hang them somewhere where the children can watch the process of mold growth. The objective here is to explain why we have been talking about washing hands so much. This experiment can also be used to describe how germs spread. It will look gross, but that is the point. We want them to see what happens when we are not washing hands appropriately.

So, until school, vacations, restaurants, playdates, etc can resume, let’s share ideas here!!

xoxo
